A Busy Weekend for Weddings in St. Louis

September and October are always very busy months for wedding music in St. Louis! I average 2 to 3 weddings per weekend during this time, performing as a solo pianist or with a small ensemble.

As a typical example, one weekend I had a solo piano ceremony at the Union Station Courtyard (bottom Right) on Saturday. Sunday I had a piano/cello duo wedding at the Jewel Box (bottom left) followed by a mad rush over to the McPherson in The Central West End for a ceremony and solo piano cocktail hour (top).

In between events, my time is filled with last minute calls and emails with brides, venue managers and event coordinators, as well as practicing and learning wedding music. On Friday I had two rehearsals to attend and during the week I had to get together with the cellist for a last minute practice.

Its during this time that one realizes that being a wedding musician is really a full time job! You have to stay organized to manage tons of information, and you've got to be swift and responsive with your communications. it's a stressful time for all of the people who are contacting me, and I always want to provide my services hassle and stress free. I use Evernote to keep on top of everything, and I've always got my laptop with me when I'm out so that I can immediately pull into a Starbucks and give people the attention they need!

This is why you'll see that vendors tend to charge a little more for weddings than other services. A true professional will who does a lot of weddings understand that they need to price to ensure that they're able to invest the time and attention you need to make your day go smoothly!
