A Marathon of Jazz, Weddings, Cocktails and "Accidentally" Opening for Jennifer Hudson!

Another crazy weekend in September.

Jazz at the Dark Room Thursday night I had the opportunity to play at the Dark room with Trumpet Player Keith Moyer's jazz quintet.  We played his original material which was extremely challenging.  The lineup consisted of Keith on trumpet, Paul Demaranis on Tenor Sax, Kevin Gianino on Drums, myself on Piano and Glen Smith on Bass. No one who knows jazz ins St. Louis will deny that these are the finest, and the nicest jazz musicians in St. Louis, and it was a privliedge to be a part of this show.

We will be recording an album of Keith's material in October.

Ceremony and Cocktails at the Muny Saturday I had a wedding and a cocktail hour at Culver Pavillion at the Muny.  Ceremony song selections: Happy Together (Seating of Family), Bless the Broken Road (Bridal Party entrance), She's Got a Way (Bridal Entrance).    The weather was great and the ceremony went off flawlessly.

Opening for Jennifer Hudson Saturday Evening I opened for Jennifer Hudson.  That was an unexpected surprise!  It was a last minute call to do a cocktail hour and I was given no details other than the location (The Four Seasons).  When I arrived in the lobby and saw the piano, I expected to be playing there, but I was directed instead into the main room, where I saw a piano and a lot of other band gear setup on a lighted stage.  I asked who the band was, and I was told that it was Jennifer Hudson, and that she would be coming on immediately after I played the dinner hour on her piano!  This was a very high end, private birthday party and she had been hired as the main entertainment!   I got to play her beautiful 9 foot Yamaha Grand, and I could hear her whispering with the band literally just a couple of feet away from me behind the stage curtain.

Wedding at the Conservatory Sunday was another wedding at the beautiful Conservatory in Old St. Charles.  I had the chance to accompany vocalist Nika Leoni who sang Handel's "Ombra Mai Fu".  She is an extremely talented vocalist who has performed all over the world and it was an honor to play with her! www.nikaleoni.com
